Bellydance! Magical Motion is a well-balanced introduction to this ancient and alluring art form. What makes this bellydance video different is that it adds a new dimension by emphasizing the exercise potential of the dance every bit as much as the artistry. And they're right: the motions taught here are definitely an excellent way to keep the body in shape. This is not, however, simply a workout tape; it is an instructional dance video that provides a solid foundation in all of the basic bellydance motions and steps. You could take what you learned from this production and put together either a workout or a dance routine, and it has the nice bonus of guiding you to the right music, costuming, and finger-cymbal work. An excellent resource for the budding bellydance enthusiast.

Bellydance Fitness for Beginners. Hips, Buns and Thighs The instructors are professional belly dancers. A buttock and thigh workout starting with traditional leg lifts and lunges and leading to belly-dance inspired moves such as squeezing one buttock at a time or circling the hips. The latter bellydance exercises are fun and an interesting change from the usual lower-body exercise routine, but they don't really strengthen or define the buttock and thigh muscles much because there's no resistance (no body weight, no external weight). It will, however, increase hip and low-back flexibility. The fun really begins later in the 30-minute workout with "hip drops" and "hip lifts" with added leg and arm positions. By the end, you're prancing on your toes (good calf workout), flicking your hips to the sides, and feeling like a real belly dancer
